The National unemployment rate is steadily climbing. We support the efforts of President Obama to offer educational workshops to members who are employed or underemployed.

The purpose of the Job Readiness Program is to offer opportunities for job seekers to secure employment with a career path for self-sufficiency. We do this by offering Job Readiness Seminars, resume reviews and a Computer Lab.

The Job Readiness Program, Get Noticed, Get Hired, was implemented in 2012 through a partnership with Jahari Soward Managing Director of NPursuit, LLC a full service recruitment firm. Other partners include the Center for Working Families and the Cascade United Methodist Church Job Readiness Program. The goal of the Job Readiness program is to help job seekers obtain employability skills and information with a focus on increasing awareness of the types of skills and attitudes needed to succeed in today’s workforce. Free Job Readiness Seminars as well as resume reviews were held from 2012-2013 hosted by a group of volunteer recruiters.  Topics included:

  • Developing a Winning Resume

  • Job Search Strategies

  • Interviewing for the Offer

  • Creating an on-line presence

  • Mastering the Interview (mock interviews)

  • On-line Job Search Strategies  (in computer lab)

Participants were added to a database and were emailed job announcements and resources to assist them with their job search. Several participants received employment during the duration of the sessions and during several of the sessions, recruiters were on site to offer employment to participants.
